There’s nothing like a shift in seasons to shake things up. Having opened our Queen’s Park showroom three days a week for the past couple of years, we’ve decided to throw open our doors six days a week from Tuesday through to Sunday. We know that many of you found it tricky to visit on our limited open days, so we hope that this might make it a little easier.
After many years of working from our kitchen, then our spare room and finally a little studio in Shepherds Bush, we moved to this cobbled street in Queen’s Park in 2021. First it just housed our design studio, and then, when we launched NiX in 2023, our collection of beautifully useful homewares and lighting. It was a huge labour of love turning it into a space that felt right for us and reflecting our approach – it needed to be an environment that could play home to the business, our creativity, clients and also our NiX collection.
It was pretty depressing hunting for somewhere that our growing team could call home, but when we found this two-storey building – originally conceived in the 19th century as a place to stable horses and carriages for the large houses of Brondesbury Park – it felt right. I used to visit the area a lot to visit Water Monopoly and Rupert Bevan, and it always felt like such a vibrant part of town, as well as somewhere that our team can easily commute to. We dissuaded the landlords from renovating it and begged them to let us take it on. Then when the next door stable space came up, we spread out into that too. We’ve painted the walls in rich greens, soft blues and pale pinks, and decorated the space with a mix of antiques, joyful colour combinations and our own collection.
When I first started the studio from home, the kitchen table was a place where family life and work life would meet, and as a consequence family has been part of the studio’s DNA since day dot. Our Queen’s Park showroom needed to look and feel like our family home. Downstairs, we put in a lovely large open kitchen that now hosts everything from studio lunches and client meetings to supper clubs. Upstairs, we created studio space in one half for the team and a bedroom area in the other, where our ‘Folly Four Poster’ now takes centre stage. My husband Andy once even slept in it after a particularly long day! Our children – although now all teenagers – still hang out here in the school holidays. In that sense, it’s not that different from our early days.
Our hope is that showcasing the NiX collection in this kind of environment will help you really experience our pieces. And, of course, the space continues to evolve like all homes do. We can’t wait to see you here soon – we’re open 10-5 Tuesday through to Saturday and 10-3 on Sundays.
